Dr Katharina Lederle

Katharina (Kat) holds a PhD in Human Circadian Physiology & Behaviour, and an MSc in Biosciences. She is also trained in Mindfulness and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Her practical experience ranges from advising national and international organisations in safety-critical industries on the management of fatigue, to working with individuals experiencing insomnia and sleep issues, to collaborating with those generally interested in sleep.

As part of her work managing workforce fatigue, Dr Kat has conducted fatigue audits and co-developed fatigue awareness training programmes for a range of clients from aviation, mining and petrochemical companies. Together with Paul Jackson, during their time at Clockwork Research, she conducted fatigue audits in Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Ghana, Peru, Qatar and the USA.

Kat uses her expertise in sleep and circadian rhythms to answer crew questions as part of Fresh Air’s e-learning programmes. When she is not working for Fresh Air, Kat provides one-to-one sleep therapy sessions and educational talks through Somnia, an organisation that raises awareness about the importance of healthy sleep.

As part of this she has written Sleep Sense, a book that explains what sleep is and why it matters, and gives practical help on how to get healthy sleep.
